Plea expected at hearing for assault case

NANAIMO - Nanaimo RCMP constable could enter a plea at hearing on May 12.

An RCMP officer charged in relation to an incident at the Nanaimo detachment  last June is expected to enter a plea at an arraignment hearing on May 12.

Const. Tim Bedard was charged with assault causing bodily harm during an alleged physical altercation with an adult male while the prisoner was being booked into a cell.

The Independent Investigation Office said the male suffered facial injuries.

Bedard remains on administrative duties.
