COVID-19 outbreaks at two care facilities in Nanaimo, declared earlier in the month, have ended, says Vancouver Island’s health authority.
Outbreaks were declared at Kiwanis Village Lodge and Eden Gardens long-term care homes on Jan. 5, but in a press release issued today, Jan. 15, Island Health stated that the outbreaks are over.
The outbreak at Eden Gardens saw four resident cases attributed to the outbreak, which remained limited to a second floor unit, said the press release and one resident case was attributed to the outbreak at Kiwanis Village Lodge, which was limited to the first floor.
Outbreak protocols have ended, although enhanced infection prevention measures and symptom monitoring for staff and residents will continue, Island Health said.
Earlier in the week, Island Health stated that an outbreak had occurred at Dufferin Place long-term care home in Nanaimo, which remains active.
According to the B.C. government’s latest COVID-19 update, for Jan. 14, there were 297 new cases in the Island Health region, with 3,016 total active cases.
Overall, there were 2,275 new cases of COVID-19 in the province with a total of 293,521.
