The nomination period for the fall local government election starts this week, which means anyone wishing to run as candidates should be thinking about filing nomination papers.
The nomination period for mayor and council, regional director and school trustee candidates opens on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.
Nomination papers for city council candidates must be filed with the chief election officer or designate at the legislative services office at city hall by making an appointment with legislative services at 250-755-4405. Nomination packages are available for pick-up at city hall until 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.
“This is a critical step for anyone looking to run in the election,” said Sheila Gurrie, the city’s chief elections officer, in a press release.
General voting day for the local government election is Oct. 15.
