NDP Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen will promote his bill, An Act to Defend the Pacific Northwest, at a town hall meeting in Nanaimo this weekend.
The meeting, part of Cullen's Take Back Our Coast tour to bring the discussion to B.C. communities, happens Sunday (Nov. 9), 1 p.m., at Beban Park social centre.
Cullen's bill, if passed, would legislate a ban on supertankers on the B.C. north coast with a moratorium that would protect the region from alleged environmental threats posed by the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline. The bill is also intended to give communities a stronger voice in pipeline reviews and to better consider the impacts of projects on value-added jobs.
The town hall is co-hosted by Nanaimo-North Cowichan MP Jean Crowder.
