It has been more than five years since the designs were unveiled for Nanaimo’s newest hotel, and now Marriott Hotels is about to reveal the results of those plans.
The nine-storey, 172-room Courtyard by Marriott, across Gordon Street from the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in downtown Nanaimo, will start opening up bookings next week.
Karla Silva, Courtyard by Marriott Nanaimo director of sales, said people can start making their bookings as of March 17.
A date for an official grand opening event hasn’t yet been announced.
“It will be the end of April or the start of May,” Silva said “We’re just trying to make sure that some of the important parties will be able to attend and we’ll be making sure that there’s an announcement made about it.”
There are three styles of rooms on the hotel’s nine floors: rooms with two queen beds, one king bed, or a king bed with a single sofa sleeper bed. The hotel also boasts a bistro, a restaurant and lounge area, a fitness room with state-of-the-art equipment open 24 hours a day, a pool and hot tub open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., two meeting rooms – one of them smaller and more casual – and in-house laundry facilities for guests.
The bistro is fitted with booths the hotel calls media pods.
“They’re three larger boothed areas that have flat-screen TVs in them, so you can sit in them and do a mini meeting … sit and chat, mirror your laptop to the TV and do your small meeting,” Silva said.
Snuneymuxw carvings and murals are featured throughout the hotel.
“They’re part of the ownership, so you will see throughout the property … there will be art pieces on each floor and art is throughout all the rooms,” Silva said.
