Nanaimo’s first-ever vegan festival will be a day of healthy foods, decadent treats, and educational opportunities.
The first annual Nanaimo VegFest will be held at Maffeo Sutton Park on Saturday, July 29, and will bring together more than 50 vendors showcasing vegan food, merchandise, education, health and wellness, and more.
“We’ve had a phenomenal response from both the local community and the wider vegan community. Many of our vendors are vegan, with some non-vegan local vendors excited to jump on board and try something new,” noted a news release.
A wide selection of vegan foods will be offered including ice cream, poutine, burritos and long-time vegan staples like tempeh, as well as a new pea-protein product called Magic Eats.
Food trucks will be on hand and along with the ready-to-eat food, and VegFest vendors will have samples and products to take home, so visitors are encouraged to bring a cooler.
Throughout the day, the festival will host a multitude of speakers like local activist and author King Zoom the Vegan Kid and award-winning author Vesanto Melina.
Kids’ activities and merchandise including clothing, books, artisan pottery and gardening items will also be available.
The event is free to attend and will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
