Nanaimo school district chairman Rae apologizes for rude gesture

NANAIMO – Pictures circulated on social media showing Rae raising his middle fingers.

Nanaimo school district chairman Steve Rae is apologizing for making a rude gesture.

Pictures circulated on social media over the weekend of Rae pointing his middle fingers.

Rae didn't want to comment when reached by phone, but referred to a statement where he admitted to being the person in the photograph.

“On the evening in question, I was enjoying a personal night out and the public part of my job crossed over into my personal life. With regards to this particular incident, I was not the first to act inappropriately that evening and there are many witnesses that can attest to this.

“This does not excuse my actions and for them I feel deep remorse,” said Rae.

Dale Burgos, school district spokesman, said it is a board matter and the board will determine what happens next.
