Nanaimo RCMP seek witnesses after assault leaves man with broken facial bones

Police are seeking witnesses after a man suffered head and face injuries after being attacked from behind in north Nanaimo.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, police were called to the 6400 block of Metral Drive after a report of an assault which investigators determined occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Police arrived to find a 40-year-old man being treated by B.C. Ambulance Service.

“The victim was walking to the Superstore gas station when he was struck from behind,” said the press release. “He does not remember the incident well and could not identify his attacker nor provide a description. He suffered fractured facial bones and a concussion.”

Police determined the assault took place near a bus stop in the 6400 block of Metral Drive and the suspect may have fled south on Metral, the press release said.

Nanaimo RCMP are asking that anyone who witnessed or has dashcam video of the incident to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-734-2345.
