Nanaimo RCMP, emergency response and helicopter respond to Rock City Road incident

NANAIMO – Nanaimo RCMP, Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team and RCMP Air Services were deployed Saturday morning.

Nanaimo RCMP, Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team and RCMP Air Services were deployed to assist with a police incident Saturday morning.

At 9:30 a.m. Saturday, police received a report of two males and two females involved in a fight in an apartment in the Rock City Road area. There was information that a firearm may have been involved, said Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in a press release.

Emergency response and air services had been involved with unrelated matters when they were called, according to O'Brien.

As a precaution, residents in adjacent units were evacuated. Contact was made with a 23-year-old man who exited his apartment and was arrested, along with a 46-year-old woman – both face charges of assault, uttering threats and firearm-related offences, as a rifle was located by emergency response, O'Brien said.

Two victims, located nearby, are co-operating with police and did not require medical assistance.
