A Nanaimo optometry clinic wants to help out during the coronavirus pandemic by offering free eyeglass repairs.
Optometrists Gurinder Jassal and Vikramjit Panesar, who operate Eye Plus Optometry and Optical, can’t offer all of their regular services during the pandemic, but will do free “no-contact” repairs for people who have broken their glasses and can’t do normal daily tasks, such as reading or driving, without them.
“We’ve been getting a lot of messages and calls from people in Nanaimo who have broken their glasses and, for the ones who are dependent on them, it’s actually a big deal,” Panesar said. “We’re not going to be doing any in-person visits or anything like that, but we want to try and help at least fix up their glasses, because sometimes it’s just really simple stuff, like just the lens has fallen out.”
The service is free, but any donations patients wish to make will support an annual vision clinic Eye Plus holds for Nanaimo’s less fortunate through the Salvation Army.
People needing eyeglass repairs are asked to set up an appointment by calling 250-591-1018 to arrange at time to bring their glasses to the clinic, located at 1650 Terminal Ave. North.
Eye Plus is not doing routine eye examinations at this time and is only taking clients who require emergency or urgent care. For more information, visit www.eyeplusclinic.ca.
A number of eye care and optometry clinics in Nanaimo have closed temporarily during the coronavirus pandemic, but others are offering limited services by appointment for patients who require urgent care or eyewear repairs, so it is best for clients to call ahead to find out what services their preferred clinics are offering at this time.
