Nanaimo Mounties arrest home invasion suspect

Police are still trying to track down three suspects involved in two violent weekend home invasions in Nanaimo on the weekend.

Police arrested a man Monday believed to have taken part in a violent invasion of a home on Townsite Road a day earlier.

The 27-year-old suspect was arrested without incident in the Departure Bay area by members of the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit.

The suspect was released Tuesday on a promise to appear in Nanaimo provincial court July 10 to face recommended charges of robbery with violence and break and enter.

Two other males involved are sought by Nanaimo RCMP.

Police say a second man was identified and a warrant for his arrest was forwarded to Crown counsel for charge approval. His name and picture will be released if those charges are approved.

Investigators are also trying to identify the third man involved in that incident.

The investigation into an unrelated home invasion on Uplands Drive Friday is continuing, but no new arrests were made since police arrested two men, 24 and 34, Saturday.

They were released on promises to appear in Nanaimo provincial court June 26 to each face recommended charges of assault with a weapon and break and enter.

Police are still looking for a third suspect from that crime.

Police said both home invasions were targeted incidents, but were not related.

The four men assaulted in the two incidents did not require medical assistance.

Anyone with information on either of these crimes is asked call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nanaiamocrimestoppers.com.
