Family members of a missing man are hoping that after seven years of looking and searching for answers, someone will have information that could shed light on his disappearance.
Eric Brett was 50 when he was reported missing from Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Dec. 21, 2005. He was admitted Dec. 13 for treatment of a mental health issue and at around midnight Dec. 21 was seen leaving the hospital for what was presumed to be a cigarette break.
Brett’s disappearance was reported to the media by his family, which resulted in several possible sightings. A health-care worker who knows Brett reported seeing him at about 5 p.m. Christmas Eve near Port Place shopping centre.
Since then there have been no other sightings. Brett’s bank accounts have not been accessed and there has been no contact with any friends or family.
In 2005 Brett was 6’3” and weighed 200 pounds. He wore glasses and was last seen wearing a red ski jacket, black slacks and white sport shoes.
He is considered an outdoor type of person and prefers small towns. At one time he worked on a fish farm in Sechelt and just before his disappearance, talked about getting back into that line of work.
“Eric’s family desperately needs closure and are hoping someone has information on his disappearance,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.
