Nanaimo hospital foundation president steps down

NANAIMO – Maeve O'Byrne, president of the foundation for 25 years, has resigned.

Maeve O’Byrne, the long-serving leader of the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation, has stepped down.

The foundation announced the resignation O’Byrne, its president for 25 years and a champion of healthcare on central Vancouver Island.

O’Byrne joined the non-profit in 1991.

“I have had the pleasure of working alongside dedicated donors, colleagues and medical practitioners in my tenure at the foundation and I’ve taken great pride in helping to build the capacity of healthcare on the Island,” she said in a press release. “While I will miss the challenges that have inspired me, I leave the organization with a solid foundation, talented staff and an exceptional board.”

The board is on the hunt for a new president and hopes the search will be complete this June.
