Until Sunday, Oct. 16, people in Nanaimo and across B.C. can push on bike pedals instead of the gas pedal to get to and from work, school and errands or just ride for fun and register with Go By Bike B.C. Society for a chance to win prizes that include a cargo bike trailer and a cycling adventure in Italy.

Free cycling safety and education webinars are also being offered and Cycle in Nanaimo T-shirts are on sale at Oliver Woods Community Centre, Beban Park and the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre.

Go By Bike celebration stations, hosted by local sponsors, are offering free bike related items, snacks and refreshments for cyclists and everyone else finding healthy alternative ways to commute. Celebrations stations will be set up at Metral Drive and Mostar Road, 3-5 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 13, and at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital 7-9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
