More snow is likely on the way for Nanaimo and Vancouver Island residents this weekend.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for east Vancouver Island, which says a new storm front moving in from the Pacific Saturday (Dec. 17) will bring snow to the south coast through Sunday.
The weather centre said snowfalls will be “highly variable with higher amounts expected island and over higher terrain.”
The good news is that the Arctic air that’s been centred on the south coast for the previous two weeks will be flushed away by milder Pacific air and snow will change to rain beginning Sunday night.
Most south coast areas will see a complete change-over to rain by Monday morning. Temperatures will remain low in some areas, with a chance of freezing rain for inland communities on the Island, including Port Alberni.
