A 48-year-old man wanted on multiple charges originating in Alberta, including kidnapping and forcible confinement, was arrested Wednesday as he drove off a ferry at the Departure Bay terminal.
Police acted on information they'd received that David James Rogerson, wanted on 11 outstanding charges from an alleged incident in Fox Creek, Alta., was aboard ferry headed to Nanaimo from Horseshoe Bay and that he was driving a black Jeep Cherokee with Alberta licence plates.
B.C. Ferries staff and crew aboard the MV Queen of Oak Bay confirmed Rogerson's vehicle and a person matching his description were on board.
Plain clothes officers boarded the ferry when it arrived at 10:30 p.m., which allowed officers to watch Rogerson's vehicle. When he drove off the ferry, general duty members and Police Dog Services positioned nearby staged a road block and stopped Rogerson's vehicle where he was arrested and taken into custody without incident.
