Lucy the emu no longer on the loose

NANAIMO – Lucy the emu caught and returned to home turf on weekend.

The flightless bird that flew the coop is back in his home roost.

Lucy, an emu owned by Tim Genner on Nanaimo Lakes Road, which escaped from its pen March 16, survived its foray into the wild and is back in its pen on Genner's acreage.

After several days on the run and numerous sightings, the 16-year-old, 68-kilogram bird was finally caught in the back yard of a property near the Vancouver Island University campus Friday.

Genner reportedly suffered scrapes and bruises from Lucy, which put up a fight when Genner wrestled the bird back into his van at the capture site.
