George Anderson, outgoing city councillor, is followed by incoming councillor Jerry Hong and members of Slowspokes cycling club and Greater Nanaimo Cycling Coalition as his front tire splits a ribbon to officially open Phase 1 of the Harewood Bikeway Wednesday.
The bike lane, between Fifth and Seventh streets, will become part of a system of lanes and trails. The event also celebrated work to expand Nanaimo’s cycling trail network and the adoption of the new Transportation Master Plan.
