Shopping local will help small businesses make it through the pandemic, and the District of Lantzville is doing what it can to promote that message.
The municipality is flying shop local banners from district hall as part of a campaign in partnership with Support Local B.C.
The District of Lantzville has sponsored a community page on Support Local B.C.’s website, where businesses can register to sell electronic gift cards, according to a press release. The platform is meant to streamline and promote gift certificate sales as a way of helping local businesses.
“Many of our food, retail and personal service providers are acutely impacted by the pandemic. The gift card platform is one way we can facilitate local spending in an environment of physical distancing,” said Mayor Mark Swain in the release.
The district is also promoting a homegrown shop local campaign, providing ‘pridemark’ decals reading ‘Lovable Livable Lantzville’ to businesses and encouraging residents who shop local to share their enthusiasm for supporting local business on social media. Residents who share photos with the hashtag #SupportLocalLantzville are entered into prize draws for gift cards.
“There are so many unique, entrepreneurial businesses in Lantzville, it’s just a matter of shining a light on them. The pridemark is being provided as a way to highlight our independent operators, and we’re asking residents to look for the pridemark when they shop,” said Jolynn Green, chairperson of the district’s economic development and sustainability committee, in the release.
