Lantzville mayor challenges leaders to help with wildfire relief

The mayor of Lantzville has issued a challenge to mayors from communities across the province.

District of Lantzville mayor Colin Haime is asking mayors in British Columbia to match his donation of $100 to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Fort McMurray, Alta.“The wildfire in Fort McMurray is devastating to those involved and the Red Cross will help the residents to cope and rebuild," Haime said in a press release. "As community leaders, the mayors of B.C. can show solidarity and support for our neighbours in Alberta by contributing to Fort McMurray’s recovery.”

Fort McMurray has been devastated by ongoing wildfires that have forced the evacuation of over 50,000 residents and destroyed hundreds of homes.
