A man charged with sexual assault in Nanaimo has pleaded guilty and was sentenced Monday to 366 days in jail.
Kynan James Krogel, 25 at the time of the incident, was arrested in Slocan Lake in late February on a provincial arrest warrant in connection to a Feb. 12 assault involving a 14-year-old girl.
Dan McLaughlin, Crown counsel spokesman, said Krogel also pleaded guilty to a Dec. 1, 2015 sexual assault, two counts of committing an indecent act in a public place on Aug. 19, 2014, and May 7, 2015, respectively, and one count of exposing himself to a person under 16 on Jan. 23, 2015.
According to McLaughlin, Krogel received an 18-month custodial sentence for the first sex assault. After receiving credit for time served, the resulting sentence was 366 days. Krogel was sentenced on the remaining convictions, but since the sentences run concurrently, he will spend a maximum of 366 days in jail.
Krogel also received three years’ probation. Conditions he must abide by include an 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew for the first 18 months of the order. He is also forbidden from using or possessing any illegal substances, except for prescription drugs, and must receive counselling and treatment as directed by his probation officer.
