Work will be carried out at night, but motorists should be prepared for traffic disruptions and delays as a project to upgrade infrastructure on and under Bowen Road gets underway.

Upgrade work will get started next Monday, June 8, according to a city press release, and be carried out from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. between the old Island Highway and Labieux Road.

The project will include water main replacement, new road surface, centre medians, pedestrian safety improvements, raised cycle lanes and right-sized travel lanes, the release notes.

Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to obey all signs and direction of flag persons during the project, which will be carried out by Nanaimo contractor Copcan Civil Ltd. and is expected to be completed in November.
