Indecent exposure at Westwood Lake

NANAIMO – Second indecent exposure incident in a week occurs at Westwood Lake Park over weekend.

Nanaimo Mounties are investigating the second indecent exposure incident in less than a week at Westwood Lake Park.

This latest case happened Saturday shortly before 4 p.m. when a 22-year-old woman called police after a man exposed his genitals to her as she walked along the Westwood Lake Trail on the east side of the boat launch. The man then ran off into nearby bushes.

Police responded, found several witnesses and obtained a detailed description of the suspect who is Caucasian, about 5-foot-8 with brown hair and a slim build. He was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.

The most recent prior incident was Thursday when a man exposed himself to a woman running the same trail near the bluffs.

“Patrols have been increased in the area of the lake and will continue for the foreseeable future,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman. “In the interim, we are asking the public to be vigilant when using the park and adjacent trails and call 911 if they are confronted with a similar situation.”

Police said that if confronted by an unknown person, remove yourself from the situation, attract attention by making noise and if possible run to an open area.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at
