A police check on a man had an unfortunate ending Sunday.
Police were called to a home on Black Diamond Drive Sunday at about 4 p.m. to check on the well-being of a distraught man.
Upon arriving at the home, officers heard one gunshot from inside the residence.
Police closed off the area and diverted traffic until an emergency response team arrived and entered the home at about 6 p.m.
“Our Emergency Response Team members entered the home to check on the well-being of an individual and sadly that person died by a self-inflicted gunshot,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.
Police are not releasing further details about the death, which has been turned over to the B.C. Coroner’s Service.
