Ferry sailings from Gabriola Island to Nanaimo Harbour terminals will temporarily halt early Sunday afternoon to allow for mandatory safety tests, with water taxis shuttling people during that time.

According to a B.C. Ferries service notice, the MV Quinsam will undergo “mandatory life raft inflation and exchange” March 13 with noon and 1: 20 p.m. sailings departing Nanaimo and 12:45 and 2 p.m. departures from Gabriola affected. Free water taxi service will be offered instead, B.C. Ferries said.

“At Nanaimo, the water taxi will depart from the ‘F’ dock, located at the downtown Nanaimo marina. Directions to the water taxi will be provided to customers when they arrive at the foot passenger booth in Nanaimo Harbour,” stated the notice. “At Gabriola, the water taxi on the Descanso Bay side will arrive just beside the ferry terminal,” it said.

The regular ferry schedule will resume with the 2:35 p.m. ferry from Nanaimo Harbour.
