Four Nanaimo RCMP members were slightly injured Tuesday morning when their  vehicle was struck from behind by a taxi.

The collision happened while their unmarked police vehicle was stopped for a red light on Terminal Avenue in the southbound lane at the Stewart Avenue intersection at about 8:40 a.m. and was rear-ended by a taxi, police said.

All four officer were taken to Nanaimo Regional with various soft tissue injuries to their backs and necks.

The officers were released from hospital by mid afternoon and all four are expected to be off duty for several days.

The male taxi driver, 59, was uninjured and declined medical treatment. He was ticketed for failing to stop for a red light.
