Financial group's walk supports Nanaimo

NANAIMO - Nanaimo employees at Western Financial Group walk five kilometres to raise money for communities the company serves

Nanaimo employees will walk five kilometres Wednesday (May 29) as part of Western Financial Group's effort raise money for communities served by the company.

Western's Nanaimo employees will join about 1,600 colleagues across western Canada at 10 a.m. in the company's ninth Support the Cause Day walk to raise money for community infrastructure grants, student bursaries and other worthwhile endeavours that support public health, recreation and education in communities Western serves.

Western donates $50 per participating employee, which is topped up by pledges employees gather from members of their community.

To date, Support The Cause Day walks have raised more than $426,000 for the Western Communities Foundation, a non-profit organization that gives back to the communities that have Western Financial Group branches.

The walk starts at Western Financial Group's branch and business offices at Beban Plaza on Bowen Road and University Village Plaza on Fifth Street.

All cash raised goes to the Western Communities Foundation. To make a donation online, please visit the Support the Cause Day website at www.supportthecause.ca.
