According to a news release from the town, the expansion will help facilitate the creation of 12 infant and toddler spaces in Ladysmith, provide more indoor space and maximize outdoor space with the benefit of nearby Lions Park. The new addition was called “an important first step in implementing recommendations from the Cowichan region child care plan.”

The town contracted MKM Projects Ltd. to construct the 800 square-foot expansion to the building and build a new playground, which was funded through a $875,000 grant directed from Union of B.C. Municipalities.

BGC plans to incorporate the new space into its operations this month.
