The mill, located on Port Way near downtown Nanaimo was closed after the company invested about $28 million to upgrade its planer mill and sawmill facilities at Duke Point in 2015.
The Port Way mill was also the site of a shooting that claimed the lives of two men and seriously wounded two others in 2014. In 2016 Kevin Douglas Addison was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder for the shooting.
