Event highlights women in politics

NANAIMO – Women and Politics hosts 2015 event Feb. 1 with seven guest speakers from across province.

Seasoned female politicians and federal candidates are converging in the Harbour City this Sunday in a push to keep up talk about women in politics.

The non-partisan Women and Politics group is hosting its first 2015 event Sunday (Feb.1), with  seven guest speakers from across the province, including Green Party leader Elizabeth May and Jody Wilson-Raybould, regional chief of the B.C. Assembly of First Nations and federal Liberal candidate for the Vancouver-Granville riding.

The event will look at issues from the results of last year’s civic election to the upcoming federal election and the future of the Women and Politics organization in Nanaimo.

It runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Nanaimo’s Grand Hotel.

Nanaimo Coun. Diane Brennan, Nanaimo-Ladysmith federal NDP candidate Sheila Malcolmson, and Carolyn Jack, chairwoman of the B.C. chapter of Equal Voice, will also be among guest speakers.
