Nanaimo school district has fewer students enrolled this school year, according to preliminary numbers. Enrolment numbers as of Sept. 30 totalled 13,211 full-time equivalent students. The district said this is 56 fewer than last year and 84 less than had been forecast for the 2013-14 budget.
“The numbers in the early grades are maybe growing slightly but the numbers in the higher grades are decreasing,” said district secretary-treasurer Phil Turin.
The district is under funding protection from the Ministry of Education and won’t see any financial impact this year.
