Emergency crews are assisting multiple patients after a rollover collision in Nanaimo’s Harewood area.

Crews were called out at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, to a two-vehicle crash at Fifth Street and Hillcrest Avenue involving a pickup truck and a hatchback.

Crews on scene were using the Jaws of Life to extricate two occupants from the pickup truck. The man and the women who were in the pickup have been transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with unknown injuries. The three occupants of the car were also being assessed or treated by paramedics, said emergency personnel.

The section of Fifth Street between Wakesiah Avenue and Harewood Mines Road is closed in both directions.

There was one crash at the Fifth Street-Hillcrest Avenue intersection in 2020 and six in the five-year period from 2016-2020, according to ICBC data.
