Driver injured in single-vehicle accident on Nanaimo Parkway

NANAIMO – Driver sent to hospital after vehicle crashes into wooded centre median on Nanaimo Parkway.

A 20-year-old man went to hospital Wednesday with injuries after losing control of his car on the Nanaimo Parkway.

The single-vehicle accident happened just before 5 p.m. when the southbound car went off the road and over an embankment south of the Fifth Street intersection and crashed among trees in a wooded area of the centre median.

No other vehicles or people were involved.

Police, firefighters and paramedics helped extricate the driver from his 2001 Saturn hatchback that was destroyed in the crash and took him to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with a suspected broken leg and other injuries.

Police are still conducting their investigation into the cause of the crash.
