Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is dealing with another COVID-19 outbreak.
Island Health issued an information bulletin Tuesday night, Jan. 25, to advise of a COVID outbreak on NRGH’s fifth floor. Five patients have tested positive for the virus.
“The outbreak declaration is limited to the fifth floor and no other areas of the hospital are affected by this outbreak declaration,” noted the health authority. “NRGH remains a safe place to attend and people should not avoid seeking emergency care, should they need it.”
Island Health also advised yesterday of a COVID-19 outbreak at Nanaimo Seniors Village, where two residents have tested positive for the virus. The health authority says the outbreak declaration applies to the assisted-living side of the facility and the long-term care home is not affected.
Island Health said its general outbreak response protocols mean a stop to social visits at impacted facilities, though essential visits are continuing. Enhanced cleaning and infection-control measures are ongoing, and staff members and residents are being more closely screened for symptoms.
