Nanaimo city council unanimously voted Monday to send a letter of concern to Canada Post over its decision to charge developers $200 per household created by subdivision for the installation of new mail boxes.
The one-time installation fee will be paid by developers to install and activate all community mailboxes and addresses.
The city’s Development Process Review Committee expressed concerns that Canada Post made no effort to consult with city staff, and it’s not yet clear how the charges will be collected.
Canada Post made council aware through a letter dated Oct. 18.
The letter will also be distributed to the Union of B.C. Municipalities and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
