Central Vancouver Island Crime Stoppers’ creativity has earned it a prestigious award from its provincial body.
The non-profit society, which works with police agencies and other stakeholders to ensure communities are safe, was conferred with the President’s Award at the provincial Crime Stoppers leadership conference in Kelowna earlier this month, stated a press release from Nanaimo RCMP. The award is given to programs that are innovative, creative and have an “overall positive impact” on the community.
Brian Cornborough, Central Vancouver Island Crime Stoppers president, said his organization has numerous initiatives on the go.
“Through several money-making ventures such as shredding events and in private donations, we have been able to provide funding for the Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services, the purchase of specialized tools for RCMP officers in Nanaimo, portable hand-held radios for the community policing program in Port Alberni, and assist with enhanced security in downtown Nanaimo,” Cornborough said in the press release.
He said the award speaks to the dedication of board members who strive to make the program stand out and to “be an agent for positive change” in the community.
