Police are looking for a man who allegedly stole a purse and phone then shot a selfie that was uploaded to the victim's new phone.

The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public's help to identify the suspect in the theft of an iPhone and purse in the 600 block of Kennedy Street, in which the suspect uploaded a picture of himself.

The owner of the iPhone told police July 5 she left her purse beside her car while carrying garbage to a nearby disposal bin. As she was carrying the garbage, she looked back and saw a man near her vehicle. When she returned, her purse and the man were long gone.

She obtained a new phone the following day and when the phone was activated, pictures were automatically uploaded, including one of the suspect seen by her purse just before it went missing.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect, please call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, text 274637, keyword Nanaimo or submit a tip online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
