Firefighters douse the last flames of a blaze that gutted a pleasure boat on Cilaire Drive Friday.

A blaze that destroyed a pleasure boat came close to destroying a travel trailer and the home it was parked next to on Friday.

The fire happened shortly after 2 p.m. on 84 Cilaire Dr. in central Nanaimo and quickly consumed the interior of the craft, which was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived at the home.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, but not before the heat damaged the exterior of a large travel trailer parked close by. The fire also threatened to ignite a balcony behind the boat.

There were no reported injuries from the fire.

A passerby said he heard a boom and then saw the smoke and flames erupting from the boat, however the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
