Regional District of Nanaimo and B.C. Transit are asking bus riders for their thoughts on a potential hike in fares.

A survey has been posted at the RDN website as there could be possible fare increases for conventional public transit, as well as Nanaimo-Cowichan Express and HandyDart customers.

Operating costs for transit have risen, the RDN said in a press release, alongside demand with increasing population. As well, the regional district is prioritizing accessibility and a sizable expansion will be required to accomplish this, the RDN said. The RDN and B.C. Transit are seeking feedback from the public in order to “establish fares that balance affordability, ridership growth and cost recovery in the coming years.”

People can take the transit fare survey at http://engage.bctransit.com/nanaimo-fare-review until May 31.
