RDN Transit has adjusted a bus route to offer service to people travelling to Vancouver via Hullo ferries.

In a service announcement, the RDN stated that Route 25 Ferry Shuttle, from Woodgrove Centre to downtown Nanaimo, will now travel to Hullo’s terminal at the Nanaimo Port Authority site at 100 Port Drive effective Sunday, Jan. 7. The changes will “match up with the Hullo ferry three times per day, seven days a week,” the RDN said.

As a result, Route 25 will cease service to Vancouver Island University and buses will travel along Northfield Road, which was not previously serviced. In addition, five extra daily trips will be made to B.C. Ferries’ terminal at Departure Bay. Overall, the number of daily trips on the route will remain the same.

In a statement, Alastair Caddick, Hullo’s CEO, said the company is pleased to offer better access to the terminal.

“The B.C. Transit service provided for the Regional District of Nanaimo is another positive step forward in our commitment to creating better connectivity and transportation options for the community,” he said.

Route 25 will no longer wait for passengers when B.C. Ferries’ vessels are behind schedule, in order to “improve service reliability through the rest of the transit system,” RDN said.

Hullo set sail on its maiden voyage in late August and more than 100,000 customers have utilized the service since then, according to the company.
