Members of Nanaimo RCMP’s bike patrol unit took their job quite literally when they tracked down a number of bicycles, which they believe were stolen, in a wooded area near the city’s stadium district.

According to a police press release, the bikes were found Wednesday, April 17, near Third Street and Jingle Pot Road.

Several hand tools belonging to Nanaimo Search and Rescue were also discovered there that were traced to a break-in at NSAR’s headquarters at the corner of Fourth Street and Chesterlea Avenue.

Other items, including an E-bike and a small quantity of tools, were determined to be from other break and enters and have been returned to their owners.

The bikes that were seized are relatively new and are of considerable value, the release noted.

Anyone with information about who owns any of the bikes is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2024-11849.
