The City of Nanaimo’s new economic development corporation has hired its first CEO.
The Nanaimo Prosperity Corporation, in a press release Monday, March 11, announced that Colin Stansfield will be its first chief executive officer.
The NPC was incorporated in January 2022, and its shareholders include not only the City of Nanaimo, but also Snuneymuxw First Nation, Nanaimo Port Authority, Nanaimo Airport Commission, Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce and Vancouver Island University.
Stansfield has been the executive director of the Sunshine Coast Region Economic Development Organization since 2019. As CEO of the Nanaimo Prosperity Corporation, he will be expected to shape the strategic direction of the corporation, lead initiatives that promote sustainable economic development, and attract investment.
Richard Horbachewski, board chairperson of the corporation, expressed delight at bringing on Stansfield as CEO.
“His visionary leadership and passion for community prosperity make him the perfect fit for this role,” Horbachewski said. “We are confident that under his guidance, the corporation will achieve great heights and make a lasting impact on Nanaimo’s economic landscape.”
Stansfield, in the press release, said he is honoured and excited to take on his new role.
“This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and prosperity of Nanaimo, and I look forward to working closely with the community, businesses, and our team to create a vibrant economic future for our city,” he said.
