A Nanaimo nurse has been suspended from practising for six weeks, as well as banned from handling opioids without supervision, after a B.C. regulatory college found issues with how she gave out medication.

The decision addressed issues that happened in 2022.

The B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives said in a statement that the discipline related to the nurse’s “failure to adhere to the medication administration and documentation practice standards.”

The nurse will be required to undergo remedial education. She will also have a limit imposed preventing her from working overtime, working as the sole regulated nurse on duty, working on more than one unit, providing care to patients in their homes, as well as providing regulatory supervision to nursing students.

The decision was reached by an inquiry commitee on April 12, approving a consent agreement between the BCCNM and the nurse.
