Nanaimo News Bulletin a finalist for B.C.’s best community newspaper

Newspaper up for a Ma Murray Award for General Excellence in the largest circulation category

The Nanaimo News Bulletin is a finalist in the General Excellence category in this year’s B.C. and Yukon Community NewsMedia Association Ma Murray Awards.

The Nanaimo News Bulletin is being considered for a Ma Murray Award as B.C.’s best community newspaper.

The B.C. and Yukon Community NewsMedia Association announced last week its finalists for 2023, with winners to be announced at a gala event at North Vancouver’s Polygon Gallery next month.

The News Bulletin is one of three finalists for the General Excellence award in the largest circulation category, 31,000 and over. The other finalists are the Surrey Now-Leader and the North Shore News.

Also, the News Bulletin is a finalist for the Special Section award for last year’s Remembrance Day edition, reporter Karl Yu is up for Best Sports Photo for a canoe racing photograph taken during Snuneymuxw Days last summer, and publisher Sean McCue is a finalist for the Ad Design award for a ‘Biggest Boxing Week’ advertisement.

The awards will be presented April 20.
