People in Nanaimo won’t see a full solar eclipse when it happens Monday, April 8, but a partial eclipse will be seen here when the moon crosses the sun’s path.
Nanaimo is on the edge of the eclipse path and Nanaimo Astronomy Society members and volunteers will help make the most of next week’s event at Pipers Lagoon Park where they will have telescopes set up and special glasses for viewing the eclipse available to the public.
According to a club press release, the eclipse starts at 10:43 a.m. with maximum coverage of the sun expected at 11:30 a.m.
The society noted in the release that the event is weather dependent and may be called off on short notice and those planning to attend are asked to check for updates on the society’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/nanaimoastronomy.
