Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish a boat fire in Nanaimo’s harbour late this morning.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue were called out to a marina in the 1300 block of Stewart Ave., just before noon on Thursday, Nov. 9.

According to initial reports, the fire appears to have started in the cabin.

Firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the 12-metre long craft, which was moored at the end of one of the docks at Newcastle Marina.

Stu Kenning, Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief, said there was no one aboard the boat at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. Fire damage was contained to the craft and did not spread beyond the craft.

The boat’s owner has been notified and the cause of the fire will be under investigation.
