The Nanaimo Regional General Hospital has received a grant to help buy new respiratory equipment.
As part of a $800,000 grant from the TB Vets Charitable Foundation to 30 hospitals across B.C., NRGH received $35,000 to purchase a Hamilton-C1 ventilator which will allow physicians and nurses the ability to provide care to patients requiring respiratory support without having to re-deploy equipment across departments or leaving care areas.
Funding for the grant came from the foundation’s key tag program in which people can donate to TB Vets and in return they get a tag for their keys; the tag has a code number so that found keys can be dropped in any mailbox and the foundation will return the keys to their rightful owner.

TB Vets president Kandys Merola, in a news release, said this year’s key tag fundraising campaign has just started and she encourages people to support it with donations big and small.
“The need for respiratory equipment remains acute, whether it’s for newborns, emergency situations, or patients suffering from respiratory conditions, and it’s only through our joint efforts that we can ensure the best possible care for every patient,” Merola said.
TB Vets was founded as a creation project for veterans of the Second World War but it has evolved over time to become a non-government funding source supporting respiratory care in B.C. To support the campaign, visit http://www.tbvets.org.
