Community gets a sample of campus life at VIU DiscoverFest

Family activities, university department exhibits highlight Oct. 21 event

Vancouver Island University provided an opportunity for people to discover what the post-secondary institution has to offer.

DiscoverFest took place at VIU’s Nanaimo campus on Saturday, Oct. 21, offering live music, entertainment and exhibits featuring university programs and fun for the whole family. It included pumpkin carving, courtesy the VIU culinary department, and ice cream from the VIU Chemistry Club, made using a reaction with liquid nitrogen.

Representatives from the university said they were pleased to welcome visitors to campus.

“Discover Fest came together from our desire to create deeper connections with our community members and partners and share the expertise we have here at VIU,” said Gillian Robinson, VIU strategic communications director, in a press release. “We look forward to growing this event and continuing to build an annual event to look forward to in Nanaimo.”
