In loving memory ~
Sandra left us suddenly and unexpectedly, two years ago, during the period of severe COVID restrictions.
She grew up on her family's Dairy farm near Aldergrove in the Fraser Valley, within sight of mountains to the North and Mount Baker to the south. Around age thirteen
she begged her father for a horse to ride, and this was to become a lifelong passion.
After completing her training at BCIT Sandra settled in Nanaimo and she spent most of her working career as an X-Ray technician, at the Caledonia Medical Clinic.
In 1984 Sandra met Thomas Stockhausen and they married in 1992. A year later they moved to the Diamond Area just north of Ladysmith, and Tom still lives there.
Sandra had many interests over the years including Amateur Theatre, Middle Eastern dance, travel, skiing and hiking in the mountains. As the years progressed her
passion for training, riding and showing Arabian Horses dominated. She ultimately became President of the Vancouver Island Arabian Horse Association and was a
long-time valued member of Mid Island Cadora. She became a very accomplished equestrian competitor, winning many awards.
Sandra's travels included accompanying her husband Tom to auto racing events in BC, Alberta and the North Western USA, helping him follow his passion.
Sandra is also survived by her brother Allan Gilbert, her sister Dianne Gilbert, her nieces Jennifer Funk and Jocelyn Titus and their families.
