TheatreOne's Emerging Voices Series continues with a dramatic reading of It's Time Jan. 19

TheatreOne’s Emerging Voices series kicks off the new year with a presentation of It’s Time by Robert Tsonos.

The Toronto playwright is a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada and his play, It’s Time, won the Uprising National Playwriting Competition and was a finalist for the Herman Voaden National Playwriting Competition.

The play dramatization is Jan. 19, 7:30 p.m. at Harbour City Theatre, located at 25 Victoria Rd.

The Emerging Voices series was created by TheatreOne to give playwrights a chance to workshop their scripts during the day with professional actors and have a evening dramatic reading.

The evening dramatic reading is directed by TheatreOne’s artistic associate Nicolle Nattrass and features Adrian Hough and Valerie Sing Turner.

It’s Time chronicles a “divided and explosive” portrait of a relationship between a Chinese business woman who fires an American business man, according to TheatreOne’s press release.

The American business man is fired from an international financial services company in Hong Kong during the financial crisis of 2008.

It explores “the rise of China, the fall of America, cultural stereotyping, sexism, and a new world order frame their relationship,” says the press release.

Admission to TheatreOne’s Emerging Voices is by a suggested donation of $10.
